Lubawka, Municipality in Lower Silesia Voivodeship, Poland
Lubawka is a municipality at the foot of the Sudetes mountain range near the Czech Republic border, serving as the administrative center of Kamienna Góra County. Medieval Church of St. Mary, the 18th-century Town Hall, and historic townhouses shape its character.
The settlement received town rights in 1292 from Duke Bolko I. It later fell under Bohemian rule before suffering destruction during the Hussite Wars.
The Market Square displays townhouses from different periods alongside the baroque Church of St. Christopher, shaping how the town appears to visitors. Walking through the center, you notice how these buildings define the local character today.
The location offers good access to the mountain region and the surrounding landscape, making it easy to explore the area on foot. Weather conditions can be changeable, so visitors should dress accordingly for any season.
The settlement gained unexpected international recognition when mentioned in Donovan's 1960s song Universal Soldier. This musical reference connected the town to global popular culture in a surprising way.
