Gościno, Administrative municipality in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland.
Gościno is a town and municipal seat in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of northwestern Poland, sitting southeast of Kołobrzeg. It serves as the administrative center for the surrounding rural commune, providing basic urban services to the villages around it.
In the 13th century, the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem controlled the settlement before local merchants bought it from Doberan Abbey. Over the following centuries, it grew from a small trading point into the administrative town it is today.
The Church of St. Andrew Bobola is the most visible building in the town center and draws locals during feasts and holidays. Walking through the streets, visitors can notice how daily life in this small town still revolves around the church square.
Gościno is easy to reach by car along the roads leading toward Kołobrzeg and is best explored on foot once you arrive. The warmer months make walking through the town and the surrounding countryside more comfortable.
Gościno was granted town status only in 2011, making it among the most recent places in Poland to receive that formal designation. This means the town functioned as a rural settlement for most of its modern history before being officially recognized as a city.
