Expressway S12, Expressway in Poland connecting Piotrków Trybunalski, Radom, Lublin and Chełm with Ukraine
The S12 is an expressway in Poland that runs from Piotrków Trybunalski to the Ukraine border crossing at Dorohusk. The route is designed to span approximately 328 kilometers when fully completed, with open sections currently running from Puławy through Lublin to Piaski, while southern portions toward the border remain under construction.
Construction of the S12 began with the opening of the Puławy section in 2008, which included the John Paul II bridge. The route was expanded in stages, with the Puławy to Kurów West segment opening in 2018, while a bypass around Piaski was completed in 2004.
The open sections of the S12 are well-developed and designed for through traffic between cities along the route. Travelers heading toward the Ukrainian border should plan for ongoing construction work in southern sections and allow extra time until these segments are fully completed.
The S12 features the John Paul II bridge, completed in 2008, a major infrastructure project that enabled river crossing and became central to the route's early development. This structure remains a distinctive element along the expressway and represents a significant investment in regional connectivity.
