Warsaw University Library, University library in Warsaw, Poland

The Warsaw University Library is a large building with glass panels and concrete elements spread across multiple floors with various reading rooms and work areas. The complex integrates different departments and holds millions of books and media materials throughout its interconnected spaces.

The collection suffered major damage during World War II when fire destroyed much of the holdings. Librarians managed to protect many works by storing them in basements, saving an important core for the post-war period.

The library holds an extensive collection of Polish posters displayed in a permanent exhibition space within the building. These works showcase how graphic designers expressed themselves during the post-war period and continue to define Polish design traditions.

The building has multiple entrances and is largely accessible, making it easy for visitors to move between floors and sections. It helps to check with the information desk upon arrival to locate the right department for your research needs.

The roof of the building features a botanical garden with different plant collections, including a traditional Japanese tea pavilion. This hidden spot offers an unexpected retreat in the middle of the urban city surroundings.
