Sacred Heart church in Stegna

The Sacred Heart church is a brick structure with timber-frame construction built between 1681 and 1683, notable for its rich artistic interior. The building displays elaborate decorative elements and handcrafted details portraying religious narratives throughout its nave and sanctuary.

The building replaced a Gothic church destroyed by fire starting in 1681 and served Evangelical communities until World War II ended. Following the war, the structure underwent changes in its function and congregation over time.

The church interior contains works by Reinhold Schneider from 1688, including images of the 12 Apostles and scenes from the New Testament.

A large ship model from 1872 hangs beneath the ceiling, gifted by sailors who had survived dangerous sea conditions. This unusual votive object reflects the maritime heritage and connection between the coastal community and the sea.
