Borne Sulinowo, Military settlement in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland
Borne Sulinowo is a town positioned along the southern edge of Pile Lake in northwestern Poland, enclosed by thick woodland and several smaller lakes. The settlement consists primarily of multi-story residential blocks and sprawling military installations that spread across a large area.
German forces built a large military base here between 1933 and 1938 as a training ground. After the Second World War, the Soviet army used the site until October 1992 as a closed garrison with roughly 25,000 soldiers.
The International Military Vehicle Gathering occurs each August, displaying an exhibition of military equipment from different periods of the town's past.
Regional bus lines connect the town with larger places in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with schedules that vary depending on the day of the week. Several overnight options and restaurants are available along the main street.
The settlement was missing from Polish maps for half a century because it remained a restricted zone during Soviet occupation. Only after troop withdrawal in 1992 did it become accessible to Polish civilians.
