Bartne, Mountain village in Gorlice County, Poland
Bartne is a mountain village in the Beskid Niski region located at 519 meters elevation, situated between the Magura Wątkowska range and the Magurańczak ridge. The settlement spreads along the Bartne stream with forests and green slopes surrounding it.
The village is first documented in 1629 and developed around sandstone quarries where local stonemasons extracted materials for gravestones and crosses. This craft tradition shaped the local economy for centuries.
The village preserves about 28 traditional wooden Lemko houses that combine living spaces and livestock areas under single roofs. This building style shows how residents integrated daily life and farming in a practical way.
The village is accessible via road 977 from Gorlice or through Ropica Górna and is located about 115 kilometers southeast of Kraków. The best time to visit is during warmer months when mountain paths are easy to walk.
Two churches stand side by side in the village: a Greek Catholic church from 1842 and an Orthodox church from 1928. These two places of worship show the religious diversity that has shaped the region for generations.
