Leoncin, Administrative village in Nowy Dwór County, Poland
Leoncin is a village in Nowy Dwór County near Warsaw that functions as the administrative center for the surrounding rural district. Its 19th-century neogothic church and older cemetery buildings give the settlement its visual character.
The village experienced significant upheaval during World War I when Russian authorities expelled its Jewish residents from the area. After Poland regained independence, some families returned and reestablished themselves in the community.
The neogothic St. Margaret's Church from 1885 anchors the village center and reflects the community's religious life. A wooden chapel at the cemetery dates to the 18th century and shows the area's deeper spiritual roots.
The village sits around 37 kilometers northwest of Warsaw and is accessible by public transportation. Visitors should be flexible about timing and services, as rural infrastructure means not all amenities are constantly available.
Nobel Prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer was born here around 1903 and spent his early childhood in this village. His family moved to Radzymin in 1906, but this birthplace marked the start of one of literature's influential voices.
