Rozbark, District in Bytom, Poland
Rozbark is a district in the eastern part of Bytom, in the Upper Silesia region of Poland. It contains residential areas such as Pogoda and Zawadzkiego, which are typical of the housing development that shaped this part of the city during the 20th century.
The name of the district goes back to 1223, when it was first recorded as Rosenberg, a medieval German term referring to rose and mountain. Over the centuries, the area changed hands several times before becoming part of modern Poland after World War II.
The Theater of Dance and Movement, which has been operating in Rozbark since 2014, brings regular performances of contemporary movement art to the district. It draws both locals and outside visitors, making it a meeting point for cultural life in the area.
Rozbark is a walkable residential district where most daily amenities are spread across different parts of the area. It is worth checking in advance where specific facilities are located, as the district has no single central point.
During the Silesian uprisings of 1921, local insurgents held Rozbark under their control even though the area was later assigned to Germany after the plebiscite. This gap between the military outcome and the political decision left a lasting mark on the way the district remembers its own past.
