Medyka, Border village in Subcarpathian, Poland
Medyka is a village in Subcarpathian Poland situated directly on the border with Ukraine. The settlement spreads along this frontier with residential neighborhoods organized around central administrative offices and a local marketplace.
The settlement grew around a 14th-century castle that Piotr Kmita Sobieński, Starosta of Przemyśl, expanded in 1542. This fortification reflected the location's strategic importance in the region during that period.
The Roman Catholic timber church of St Peter and Paul, constructed in 1607, stands as a central religious structure in the village.
The village has several transport links including a major road border crossing and a railway line connecting Poland with Ukraine. These connections make it a transit point for travelers and a trade center between the two countries.
In 1830, Gwalbert Pawlikowski established the first horticultural school in the Kingdom of Galicia on his estate here. This school was one of the early efforts to spread modern gardening knowledge across the region.
