The administrative district evolved from traditional Polish territorial divisions, becoming formalized as a gmina within Nowy Sącz County after the 1998 reforms.
Eight villages compose this municipality, including Kamionka Wielka, Mystków, and Mszalnica, each maintaining distinct local traditions and community practices.
The district lies 9 kilometers southeast of Nowy Sącz city, providing residents access to urban services while maintaining a rural character.
