Podgaje, Greater Poland Voivodeship, Rural village in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland.
Podgaje is a village in Greater Poland Voivodeship, located within the administrative district of Gmina Okonek in northwestern Poland. Houses and farms are spread loosely across the area, with fields and patches of forest on all sides.
The area was part of the early Polish state and later fell under the Duchy of Pomerania until 1648. After World War II, it was incorporated into communist Poland and gradually developed into the rural settlement it is today.
The village sits in a farming area where the pace of daily life follows the seasons closely. Walking through it, you notice vegetable gardens, open barns, and fields that stretch to the treeline on most sides.
The village is reached by local roads and lies close to Okonek, which has more services and transport connections. Having a car is helpful, as public transport in this rural area runs infrequently.
In January 1945, Polish soldiers were killed here by Waffen-SS troops during the last weeks of the war. A memorial stone in the village marks the spot and remains visible to this day.
