The village of Chełmno nad Nerem sits near the Ner River, approximately 19 kilometers southeast of Koło and 135 kilometers east of Poznań.
The earliest documentation of Chełmno appears in the Bull of Gniezno from 1136, followed by its official village status confirmation by Duke Przemysł II in 1284.
The Chełmno Extermination Camp Museum, established in 1994, preserves historical records and educates visitors about the events of World War II in this region.
The village maintains a population of 350 residents and is accessible through the local road network connecting to major transportation routes in Greater Poland.
King Sigismund I transformed Chełmno into a town during the late 1500s, but the settlement returned to village status shortly after this brief period.
