Gmina Muszyna, Administrative district in Nowy Sącz County, Poland.
Gmina Muszyna is an urban-rural municipality in Nowy Sącz County, in the southern part of Lesser Poland Voivodeship, close to the Slovak border. It covers the town of Muszyna and eleven villages spread across hilly land in the Poprad River valley.
The municipality took its current form through Poland's administrative reform of 1998 and became part of Nowy Sącz County in 1999. The town of Muszyna itself is much older, having served as a border post of the Polish kingdom during the medieval period.
Several villages in the gmina sit along the Poprad River, where wooden houses and small roadside chapels are a common sight. In places like Leluchów, the settlement is sparse enough that open meadows and quiet lanes define the feel of the area.
The municipality is accessible year-round, with roads connecting the town of Muszyna to the surrounding villages, though some stretches wind through hilly terrain. Muszyna town makes a good base for exploring the area, and the neighboring spa town of Krynica-Zdrój is a short drive away.
The village of Leluchów sits right on the border with Slovakia, making it one of the few places in the area where you can walk across into a neighboring country. This makes it a popular starting point for short cross-border hikes.
