Gębice, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Rural settlement in Mogilno County, Poland
Gębice is a village in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, part of Gmina Mogilno, set among open farmland in north-central Poland. The settlement is made up of scattered houses, farm buildings, and a parish church that forms the center of the village.
The village parish church, dedicated to Saint Matthew, was built in the 15th and 16th centuries, which shows this area has been settled for a long time. The community grew around this church over the following centuries.
Near the road toward Zbytów, there is a memorial marking the site of a former Jewish cemetery at the edge of the village. This spot is one of the few visible signs that the area was once home to a more varied community than it appears today.
Gębice sits in a rural area where roads connect it to the nearby towns of the region, making day trips to larger centers easy to plan. The village itself is best explored on foot, as the main points of interest are close together.
The Saint Matthew church is one of the few surviving medieval churches in this part of the region, with construction spanning two centuries visible in its walls. This means different building phases can still be read in the structure by those who look closely.
