Saint Procopius church in Strzelno, Romanesque church in Strzelno, Poland
Saint Procopius Church is a Romanesque stone structure with a circular floor plan in Strzelno. The building features two symmetrical apses on the north side, a cylindrical tower on the west side, and an original cross-ribbed vault supported by four arches.
The building was consecrated as Holy Cross Church in 1133 and received its current name in 1779. During wartime periods, the structure served different purposes.
The church took the name of Saint Procopius in 1779. Visitors can still see the original 12th-century baptismal font carved from a single stone, along with one of Poland's earliest representations of the Stations of the Cross from 1531.
The church is located at Saint Adalbert Square 1 and opens occasionally for services, weddings, and early music concerts. Plan your visit with enough time to explore the interior details and architecture.
This is Europe's only rotunda with a square presbytery instead of an apse. This feature sets the building apart from all other rotund church structures on the continent.
