Magazyn Konfekcyjny Emila Schmechela

Magazyn Konfekcyjny Emila Schmechela is a four-story building with a modern glass-mirror facade and rectangular windows on Piotrkowska Street. The structure combines historical elements with contemporary materials and shows the typical construction style of Łódź's former industrial period.

Emil Schmechel founded this clothing warehouse complex in 1892 and underwent a major reconstruction in 1911. The building experienced significant changes after a fire in 1990 that fundamentally altered its appearance.

The building shows how Łódź's commercial architecture changed over time, transforming from a textile storage facility into a prominent shoe store known as Dom Buta. You can still see traces of these different purposes in its design today.

The building is located at Piotrkowska 98 near several bus stops and is easily accessible by public transportation from the city center. The central location makes it simple to visit while exploring downtown.

The building was completely renewed with a modern glass-mirror facade after the 1990 fire but retained its status as cultural monument A/208. This combination of contemporary architecture and heritage protection makes it a rare example of post-war restoration philosophy in Łódź.
