Lutheran cemetery in Pabianice, Lutheran cemetery with chapel in Pabianice, Poland.
The Lutheran cemetery in Pabianice is a Protestant burial ground with a chapel built between 1907 and 1909. The site contains numerous graves and memorial stones from the 19th century that display craftsmanship and burial practices of the industrial era.
The cemetery was established in 1830 as a burial ground for the Evangelical community. The chapel was added later as a donation from a German industrial family involved in textile manufacturing.
The chapel displays Viennese Secession features with a single hall, stained glass windows, and an apse. The space reflects the religious and artistic values of the industrial family that commissioned it.
The cemetery is located at Ewangelicka 2/4 and is managed by the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish. Visitors should approach it respectfully as this is an active burial ground still in use.
The chapel was originally planned as a family mausoleum but was repurposed as a prayer room because laws restricted mausoleum construction to noble families only. This conversion shows how industrialists creatively worked around legal limitations of their time.
