Saints Matthew and Lawrence church in Pabianice

Saints Matthew and Lawrence church is a brick structure with three naves separated by columns, a transept crossing, and a distinctive square tower that becomes octagonal toward its peak. The building displays a clear Renaissance layout with a rectangular choir and sturdy proportions throughout.

Construction of this brick church began in 1583 and was completed in 1588 under the direction of architect Ambrozy Wloch from Plock, supported by funding from the Krakow Chapter. The building emerged during a period when Renaissance design was spreading through the region.

The church is dedicated to Saints Matthew and Lawrence, names that have held meaning for the community since its founding. Inside, the baroque altars and religious artworks reflect how these saints remained central to local faith and prayer.

The church is located near the Old Market Square and is easily reached on foot from the town center. Visitors should keep in mind this is an active parish church, so it is best to plan visits outside of service times when possible.

The side transepts hold altars dedicated to the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary, decorated with silver votive offerings from the 1600s. These silver pieces represent personal prayers and gratitude from believers who worshipped there across generations.
