Alvernia Studios, film studio
Alvernia Studios is a former film production complex in Niepora near Krakow featuring distinctive dome-shaped structures built between 2000 and 2002. The site housed advanced equipment including a large spherical green screen for creating backgrounds and now operates as Alvernia Planet open to the public.
The buildings were originally planned from 2000 as a media complex, received a European architecture award in 2004, and became Poland's first private film studio in 2006 under Stanisław Tyczyński. In 2017, Grzegorz Hajdarowicz acquired the site and transformed it in 2019 into Alvernia Planet, a space for entertainment and education.
The name comes from the nearby town of Alwernia near Krakow. Today, the site serves visitors interested in film and digital technology who want to experience interactive demonstrations with modern audiovisual systems.
The site is accessible as a public park featuring interactive audiovisual displays and experiences with holograms and virtual reality available to visitors. The dome structures and indoor installations work best when you have time to explore and move between different sections at a leisurely pace.
The massive spherical green screen housed in one dome was once Europe's largest and allowed filmmakers to create complex visual effects without building physical sets. This advanced system shows how the studio competed internationally with renowned European facilities like Pinewood Studios.
