Botanic Garden of Casimir the Great University, Bydgoszcz

The Botanic Garden of Casimir the Great University is a botanical garden covering about 2.33 hectares on the university grounds. It holds about 400 tree species, roughly 700 herbaceous plants, and around 100 aquatic plant varieties arranged in separate zones.

This botanical collection was founded in 1930 as a teaching and research facility for the university. After suffering damage during World War II, it was reconstructed and reopened in 1946 to resume botanical research and education.

Stone archways and pergolas create defined zones throughout this place, giving each area its own character and purpose. A sundial at the center and rotating sculptures help visitors experience the rhythm of seasons as they walk through.

This place is typically open from May through September and features walking paths throughout the grounds. Paths can become slippery after rain, so wear appropriate footwear when conditions are wet.

This garden participates in an international seed exchange network with other botanical institutions around the world. This program allows rare and specialized plant varieties to be shared and preserved across different research centers.
