Arena Sanok, Entertainment center in Sanok, Poland
Arena Sanok is an entertainment and sports centre in Sanok, in southeastern Poland. It has an ice rink used mainly for hockey, large halls for sporting events and concerts, plus support spaces such as locker rooms and a cafe.
The building was designed by architect Wojciech Gęsiak, who was selected through a competition in 2003, and construction ran from 2004 to 2006. It was built to fill the gap left by the absence of a modern sports facility in the city.
Sanok has a long ice hockey tradition, and this arena is where that passion comes alive on match days. The stands fill with local fans who have followed the sport for generations, making home games a genuine community event.
The programme changes regularly between sports events and concerts, so it is worth checking what is on before you visit. The centre is located close to the centre of Sanok and easy to reach on foot from most parts of the town.
In 2021, the building served as a vaccination centre while still hosting sports events at the same time. This double use during a crisis showed how a large venue can shift its purpose without closing its doors.
