New Lutheran Cemetery in Bielsko-Biała, historic cemetery in Bielsko-Biała, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
New Lutheran Cemetery in Bielsko-Biała is a burial ground on the north side of the city near Listopadowa Street. The layout consists of three sections with different designs: one featuring straight rows lined with trees, another arranged around a circular center with radiating paths, and a third reserved for future expansion.
Opened in 1911, the cemetery was built on land purchased by the Lutheran community in 1895. Architect Hans Mayr from Vienna, who studied under Otto Wagner, designed the layout to replace an older burial ground that had been in use since 1833.
The cemetery serves the evangelical Lutheran community as a place to honor ancestors and maintain family memories. Visitors bring flowers and light candles to mark special occasions, keeping traditions alive through simple acts of remembrance.
Located on Listopadowa Street on the north side of the city, the cemetery is easily accessible for visitors. An online mapping system called Grobonet Pro allows visitors to search for and locate specific graves before arriving.
The southwestern area features a campo santo complex inspired by Italian cemetery traditions, with a courtyard surrounded by buildings, an arched wall, and a chapel in late Baroque style. This architectural feature creates an enclosed, distinctive space within the larger grounds.
