Mechanical School N°1, Bydgoszcz, Educational heritage building in downtown Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Mechanical School N°1 is a four-story brick building at 37 Świętej Trójcy Street featuring eclectic architecture with ornamental facades and a prominent corner tower. The complex houses technical engineering programs today while preserving its original architectural elements as a registered cultural heritage monument.

Architect Carl Meyer designed this educational institution in 1911 as the Royal-Prussian School of Craft and Art Industry, the sole state art school in Posen Province. After World War II, it was transformed into a technical institution and expanded its curriculum to include engineering programs.

The building carries traces of its origins as an arts and crafts school in its ornamental design, even as it now houses technical education programs. The shift from artistic to engineering training is visible in how the space is used today and reflects the changing needs of the community.

The building is easily reached in downtown Bydgoszcz and maintains its historical features while functioning as an active school center. Visitors should note that it is an operating educational facility, so viewing from outside or during designated open times is most practical.

During World War II, the building served temporarily as a police headquarters before returning to its educational mission. This temporary repurposing reveals the turbulent history of the region and how important structures were diverted during times of crisis.
