The five ponds served as a drinking water source for Bydgoszcz from the 16th century until the late 18th century, functioning as part of the city's water infrastructure. After centuries of use as a utility, they were restored and transformed into a recreational park for modern use.

The park serves as a gathering place for people living in the Szwederowo and Gorzyskowo neighborhoods. Locals spend their days walking around the water, sitting on the banks, and enjoying moments with family and friends in this shared green space.
