Czerwony Mostek in Kraków

Czerwony Mostek is a road viaduct in Kraków that carries traffic across two separate streets at different levels as part of the city's fortress infrastructure. The structure allows vehicles on both roads to move independently without crossing paths.

The Austro-Hungarian army built this viaduct around 1900 as part of their defensive strategy for the city. The structure was designed to enable secure troop movements and support military operations during potential conflicts.

The bridge stands along the Eagle Nests Trail, a former trade route that connected Kraków with Częstochowa, and intersects with the Via Regia pilgrim path.

You can observe the structure from both street levels and see how two traffic layers work above each other. A recent restoration has preserved the original appearance while keeping the viaduct fully functional for traffic.

The bridge design incorporated specific military requirements, allowing simultaneous troop movements on both intersecting roads without interference during combat situations.
