Cmentarzysko Jaćwingów Natural Reserve

The reserve spans 3.39 hectares of forest land containing ancient burial mounds with diameters ranging from 6 to 21 meters, encircled by stones.

The area preserves burial grounds from the 2nd to 5th centuries AD, belonging to the Sudov culture populations who settled in northeastern Poland.

Archaeological excavations at the burial mounds revealed both cremation and skeletal graves, indicating different funeral practices of early medieval communities.

The reserve stands at 183.5 meters above sea level and includes marked pathways through spruce forests with pine and oak trees.

The burial mounds contain artifacts that indicate social hierarchies, from common tribe members to princes, based on the ornaments found in graves.
