Nature reserve Wilcza Góra, Nature reserve near Złotoryja, Poland
Nature reserve Wilcza Góra is a basalt hill in the northern section of the Kaczawskie Foothills. It rises approximately 367 meters above sea level and displays remarkable geological features.
The site was one of six official flight schools in Lower Silesia before World War II. The location also played a role during the Napoleonic Wars.
The hilltop shows remains of ancient settlements, suggesting its use as a religious or ceremonial place across different periods.
You can reach the reserve through a 30-minute walk from the free parking area, with information boards and rest spots along the way. The paths are well marked and accessible for most visitors.
The reserve contains vertical basalt columns and concentric fracture patterns known as basalt rosettes, formed by volcanic activity 20 million years ago. These distinctive rock formations result from the slow cooling of lava.
