Nature reserve Wąwóz Szaniawskiego, Forest nature reserve in Serock municipality, Poland
Nature reserve Wąwóz Szaniawskiego is a protected forest area in Serock municipality containing pine trees, oaks, maples, lime trees, and hornbeams distributed across sloping and varied terrain. The vegetation transitions between denser and more open sections, creating different habitats within the forest.
The reserve was established in 1977 and named after writer Jerzy Szaniawski, whose family owned the surrounding lands. Its creation followed directly after a fire destroyed the manor house that same year.
The remains of a manor house mark the site where writer Jerzy Szaniawski once lived before it burned down, serving as a reminder of the estate's past. These ruins connect visitors to the family's history and their relationship with the surrounding lands.
The reserve can be accessed through marked hiking and cycling trails, with entry points near Jadwin in Mazovian Voivodeship. Wear proper footwear suited for uneven ground and potentially muddy forest paths.
The reserve protects 34 natural monuments, including two granite rock formations that stand out in the landscape. Visitors may spot rare alpine currant bushes growing in the forest undergrowth.
