Rezerwat przyrody Jezioro Lubiatowskie
Jezioro Lubiatowskie Nature Reserve is a protected area of about 370 hectares surrounding a lake within Koszalin, featuring a mix of forests, meadows, and water zones that support diverse plant and animal communities. The Dzierżęcinka river flows through the lake, creating varied habitats where over 374 plant species thrive and numerous bird species breed or pass through during migration.
The area was once farmland but gradually transformed into a protected nature reserve to safeguard the natural environment. Today it is carefully managed to maintain its ecological character and provide shelter for wildlife.
The lake is named after the nearby village of Lubiatów and serves as a peaceful retreat for locals and visitors seeking time in nature. The reserve represents an important effort to maintain natural spaces within and near urban areas.
The reserve is best explored on foot with easy-to-follow trails around the lake offering good views for observing wildlife. Bring water and snacks as there are no facilities on site, and motorboats are not permitted to protect the environment.
The reserve hosts about 35 breeding bird species, but during migration season up to 48 species visit the lake to rest and feed, making it an important stopover point for traveling birds. These seasonal fluctuations reveal how the lake serves as a crucial hub in continental bird migration patterns.
