Nature reserve Kamień Grzyb

Nature reserve Kamień Grzyb is a protected area near Połom Duży centered on a distinctive sandstone formation. The main feature is a rock shaped like a mushroom, made of two parts with a wider cap on top and a narrower stem below, and it includes a natural shelter carved into its base.

The reserve received protection in 1962 to preserve a geological formation created about 60 million years ago. The sandstone rocks formed from sediments that accumulated at the bottom of an ancient sea that once covered this area.

Latin inscriptions on a stone plate near the rock show that monks once spent time here and left their mark on the place. The location still carries a spiritual connection to the nearby monastery that visitors can sense when they walk around.

The reserve sits at 380 meters elevation on the northern slope of Bukowiec hill and is surrounded by hiking routes. These trails connect two towns, making it straightforward for visitors to include this spot in a longer walk through the area.

The rock formation has two clearly different parts whose size contrasts stand out noticeably as you walk around the structure. A natural shelter carved into the base offers an unexpected space that many visitors overlook on their first pass.
