Wyspa Zielona, River island in Szczecin, Poland.
Wyspa Zielona is a small river island in Szczecin surrounded by branches of the Oder River and covering about 0.3 square kilometers. It connects to neighboring Kepa Parnicka via an embankment and is served mainly by a single street where the shipyard stands.
The island bore the German name Neue Silberwiese until 1945 and was briefly called Kepa Reglicka before receiving its current name in 1949. The construction of the Parnicki Canal separated it from Pucka Island, establishing it as an independent geographical entity.
The island holds maritime significance through the presence of a shipyard that continues to shape daily life and work on this small community. The river has always been central to how people here earn their living and spend their time.
The island is small and easy to explore on foot, allowing for a relaxed walk through its single street. Wear sturdy shoes and check in advance whether the shipyard area is open to visitors, as it remains an active working space.
The island was once connected to Pucka Island as a single landmass before the Parnicki Canal separated them. This engineering project reshaped the river landscape to improve Szczecin's infrastructure and transportation system.
