Wieża Bismarcka w Działdowie, Monument tower in Malinowo, Poland.
The Bismarck Tower in Malinowo is a stone structure built in 1915 on a former elevation known as Fox Mountain, constructed from irregular field stones. The design by architect Kähn features a solid construction meant to withstand the harsh climate of the region.
The tower was erected in 1915 as a memorial to soldiers who died in World War I, following a German trend of commemorating war casualties. After the war, when Działdowo became part of Poland, the purpose and symbolic meaning of the structure changed fundamentally.
After World War I, the tower became a symbol for the local community and received Polish inscriptions in the 1920s that reflected its new meaning. Visitors can see the traces of this renaming and different symbols carved into the stones, telling the story of the place's complex past.
Access to the tower requires professional guidance since there are no internal stairs and the structure is challenging to explore safely. Visits are mainly available on weekends when the building is open to visitors.
In November 2020, the tower underwent digital preservation through 3D modeling, making its architectural details available for virtual exploration. This digitization project allows people to study the finer structural details from anywhere in the world.
