The Bismarck Tower in Wieleniu is a stone and brick structure built on a wooded ridge in Czarnków-Trzcianka County, rising approximately 13 meters high with a diameter of about 3.7 meters. The monument now stands as ruins, with only the lower portions and foundation walls remaining visible today.
The monument was built in 1902, with the foundation stone laid on April 1 and the official opening ceremony held on June 21 of that year. The structure was created to honor Otto von Bismarck's importance in the region during the era of the German Empire.
The tower was built as a memorial to Otto von Bismarck, with fires traditionally lit on his birth and death anniversaries in the early decades after completion. This custom showed how much the local community valued remembering important historical figures.
The site can be reached by parking near the community gardens on Polna Street and walking about 300 meters along a forest path. The route is fairly easy to walk, especially if you wear sturdy footwear and visit when the ground is dry.
The tower's construction was funded through municipal support and public donations from local residents, with total costs reaching around 5,000 marks. This community-funded approach reflected strong public backing for the commemorative project.
