Wieża Bismarcka w Żaganiu, Memorial tower in Żagań, Poland.

Bismarckturm Żagan is a memorial tower built from granite and stone standing on Burgberg hill at approximately 20 meters tall. Strong columns frame the main entrance, and a resting lion sculpture guards the portal as a symbolic detail.

The structure was inaugurated on June 27, 1909, after construction started in 1908. It was built during a period when similar memorials were rising across German-speaking regions as a response to national sentiments.

The structure is part of a network of Bismarck towers built across German-speaking territories to commemorate the former chancellor. These monuments once served as gathering places where the community could reflect on shared heritage and national identity.

Climbing to the observation platform rewards visitors with views across the city, though the structure shows signs of age. Visitors should be cautious and check conditions before planning an extended visit.

Until 2002, the memorial functioned as a water tower, blending its commemorative purpose with practical municipal service for the community. This dual role remained hidden from most visitors and represents an unusual approach to monument design.
