Zesławice Lake, Lake reservoirs in Nowa Huta district, Kraków, Poland
Zesławice Lake consists of two artificial water reservoirs separated by a concrete causeway and surrounded by open fields. Walking paths circle the water, offering views across the landscape and access to different vantage points.
The lake was built during the 1950s to supply drinking water for the expanding industrial city of Nowa Huta. It continues to serve as an emergency water source for the city today.
The lake attracts bird watchers throughout the year who come to observe swans, ducks, and migratory species in their natural setting. Visitors are drawn here to watch the diverse water birds that make this place their home.
The lake is easily reached via Gustawa Morcinka Street, where free parking is available for visitors. Public buses 159 and 193 also serve the area for those who prefer not to drive.
An unfinished third reservoir section has been reclaimed by nature and transformed into a green space where beavers have made their home. This natural transformation shows how wildlife can adapt to and reshape abandoned human structures.
