Castle of the Dukes of Głogów, Medieval castle in Głogów, Poland
The Castle of the Dukes of Głogów is a fortress from the 13th century with a distinctive cylindrical tower built into the town's defensive wall. Four residential wings surround a central courtyard, creating the main structure of this fortified complex.
The fortress started as a wooden structure in the mid-13th century but was soon given a stone tower. Under Prince Konrad I, it became the center of the newly formed Duchy of Głogów.
The museum inside the castle displays objects and findings that tell the story of how the Głogów region changed over time. Visitors can see evidence of daily life and important moments from different periods.
The castle is open from Wednesday to Sunday with guided tours through the museum rooms. Visitors should check ahead whether special tours or events are happening, as these can enhance the experience.
During the 1480 siege, defenders of the castle held out for weeks before eventually negotiating with the attacker John II of Żagań. This period of resistance remains an important chapter in the fortress's past.
