Zamek Pieniński, Medieval castle ruins in Pieniny Mountains, Poland.

The defensive structure stands at 799 meters above sea level on Zamkowa Mountain, with remnants of 90-meter-long limestone walls and a square tower foundation.

Built before 1241, the fortress served as a shelter for Princess Kinga and 70 nuns from the Poor Clares monastery during the Mongol invasion of 1287.

The castle contains the Grotto of Saint Kinga, where religious ceremonies take place annually in July to commemorate the death of the princess.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a marked hiking trail, with the round trip taking approximately 4 hours from Krościenko nad Dunajcem.

Archaeological excavations at the site revealed ancient floor fragments, aurochs bones, ceramic pieces, and arrowheads from the medieval period.
