Witów, Tatra County

Witów is a mountain village in Tatra County positioned at the foot of the Western Tatra range, with traditional wooden buildings and open meadows filling the valley floor. The settlement spreads along the natural contours of the landscape, surrounded by steep slopes and rocky terrain.

The village was first documented in 1606 and took its name from Stanislaw Witkowski, an early settler in the region. From 1770 to 1918, the area fell under Austrian administration, shaping its local development during that period.

Two regional music groups perform at local celebrations, keeping traditional mountain melodies alive in the community. These ensembles are woven into the fabric of village life and draw visitors who enjoy folk traditions.

The village sits about 13 kilometers from Zakopane and offers easy access to multiple ski centers and mountain hiking trails. Visitors can use it as a base for exploring the mountain landscape or pursuing outdoor activities in the region.

The Czarny Dunajec River originates within this settlement and flows downstream into the depths of the mountain landscape. The Starorobociański Wierch peak nearby stands as the tallest point in the surrounding Western Tatras.
