Święta Góra

Święta Góra is a religious sanctuary with a Baroque basilica positioned atop a moraine hill near Gostyń. The building follows a circular floor plan with a central dome and several chapels arranged around its perimeter.

The basilica was constructed between 1675 and 1698, following the architectural style of the Venetian Santa Maria della Salute. This project arose to establish a major pilgrimage shrine in the region.

The chapel holds a Gothic-Renaissance statue of Mater Dolorous and an image of the Virgin Mary with Child holding a rose. These artworks are venerated by pilgrims and shape the spiritual life of the place today.

The sanctuary opens its doors daily to visitors and offers guided tours of the basilica and the monastic complex. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the moraine hill is steep and climbing to the top requires some effort.

A well on the grounds holds a statue that lay underwater for twelve years until a mysterious light revealed its location. This discovery is regarded by pilgrims as miraculous and has deepened the sacred character of the place.
