Saint Matthew church in Mielec

The Saint Matthew church stands near the Old Market Square with its tower and lantern rising prominently against the urban landscape of Mielec.

Originally constructed as a wooden structure in 1470, the church received brick additions in 1595 with Saint Anna's chapel marking its first stone expansion.

The basement contains burial sites of the Mielecki family members, who held positions as senators during the reigns of the last Jagiellonian kings.

Regular Catholic services take place in the basilica, which received its elevated status from Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.

An 18th-century wall surrounds the church grounds, featuring detailed stations depicting the Passion of Christ along its perimeter.
