St. John the Baptist Church in Rzepiennik Biskupi, houten kerk in Polen

St. John the Baptist Church in Rzepiennik Biskupi is a small wooden church built in the early 1500s with a single nave and a bell tower added in the 1600s. The structure features log walls covered with shingles, a steep tent roof, small arched windows, and sits on a hillside overlooking the surrounding landscape.

The parish in Rzepiennik Biskupi was first mentioned in 1382, but the current church was constructed around 1500. The building has remained largely unchanged over the centuries, retaining its original form while undergoing restoration work in the 1950s and late 1970s to ensure its preservation.

The church has served as the center of village life for generations, where people gathered to pray, celebrate important days, and keep their traditions alive. Its simple craftsmanship and wooden details still show the faith and devotion of the community that built it.

The church is easily accessible, located on a small hill with open views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can walk up to the building to enjoy the quiet setting and appreciate the nearby fields and forests in the Pogórze Ciężkowickie area.

A notable statue of the Mother of God from the early 1500s was moved from this site to the National Museum in Krakow, where it is now preserved. Visitors can still discover fine carved details and painted decorations inside that reflect the skill of regional artisans working over many centuries.
