Saint James church in Wągrowiec

Saint James Church is a late Gothic brick building with stone foundations and cylindrical towers. The interior contains nine altars, one of which dates to the sixteenth century.

The building was constructed in the sixteenth century to replace an earlier wooden church on the same site. Stone from a nearby Cistercian monastery was incorporated into its walls, reflecting the religious importance of the area.

The church served as a spiritual center for local believers over many centuries. Today the interior altars show how important this place was to the religious life of the community.

The church is located in central Wągrowiec and can be reached easily on foot. An adjacent bell tower from 1847 was restored in 2004 and is also worth viewing.

The walls were built using granite stones from a dissolved monastery, meaning the building contains materials from an earlier religious site. This reuse of stones shows how an old ruin was given new purpose in a different structure.
