Saint James church in Lubsza, church building in Lubsza, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland

Saint James church in Lubsza is a solid brick structure with thick walls and a tall tower positioned in eastern orientation. The interior features a rectangular main space with a flat modern ceiling, colorful stained glass windows from different periods, and an altar area displaying a painting of Saint James as the focal point.

The church was constructed in the late 1300s or early 1400s on the site of an older wooden structure to provide greater strength and durability. In the 1800s, the wooden bell tower was replaced with a heavier stone one, and a major rebuilding in 1930 introduced a new roof, updated windows, and modernized facilities.

The church is dedicated to Saint James and remains the center of village life in Lubsza. Parishioners gather twice yearly for main festivals to honor the saint with processions and prayers, deepening their local faith traditions and sense of community.

The church stands in a quiet location within the village and is easily accessible from all sides, with a small cemetery on the grounds. Visitors should note that the interior is simply decorated, and natural light streams in through side windows and altar windows, creating an inviting environment particularly during morning and afternoon hours.

The tower holds a massive bell from the 1500s that still rings during special occasions, maintaining a direct connection to centuries-old craftsmanship. This ancient bell tolls alongside newer bells, creating a layered sound that brings the location's long history to life in a way visitors do not always expect.
