Saint Joseph church in Olsztyn, Romanesque Revival church in Olsztyn, Poland.
Saint Joseph church is a religious building in Romanesque Revival style with a Latin cross floor plan, twin towers framing the exterior, and a tall central tower rising where the three naves meet. The structure combines this geometric layout with carefully detailed brickwork and architectural ornaments throughout.
The building was constructed between 1912 and 1913 under architect Fritz Heitmann from Königsberg and became the third Catholic place of worship in the city. Its completion reflected the growing religious needs of the Catholic community during that period.
Inside, five altars showcase carved wooden details and original stained glass panels from 1912 that fill the space with colored light. The visual richness reflects how craftspeople of that era created places where worshippers could spend time in quiet reflection.
The church sits in the Over the Railways district next to a cemetery opened in 1904 and includes brick chapels for prayer and reflection. Visitors can move through the different spaces and experience how the building and its surroundings form a connected religious complex.
In 2009, it received designation as a sanctuary of Divine Mercy, which elevated its status within the local Catholic community. This recognition brought added spiritual importance to the religious life that happens there.
