Sacred Heart church in Karpacz

Sacred Heart Church is a stone structure with a sandstone altar surrounded by a painted coffered ceiling decorated with floral patterns. A central triptych of Jesus forms the focal point of the interior artistic decoration.

The structure began as a Norwegian stave church in the 13th century and was transported to Poland in 1844 for reconstruction in Karpacz. This relocation represents a major undertaking to preserve medieval architecture.

The church contains carved wooden reliefs on its pulpit depicting Gospel scenes, created by craftspeople from the Cieplice woodcarving school. These handmade details reflect the artistic traditions that shaped the region's religious spaces.

The church is open to visitors on a daily basis, though hours vary between seasons. It is wise to check current opening times before your visit.

Painter Johann Christian Dahl facilitated the movement of the entire church structure from Vang in Norway through Prussia to its final location in Poland. His intervention was crucial in saving this rare medieval timber building.
