Multimedialne Muzeum Karkonoszy, Interactive technology museum in Karpacz, Poland
The Multimedialne Muzeum Karkonoszy is an interactive museum in Karpacz, in the Polish Sudeten Mountains, dedicated to the geology and natural world of the Karkonosze range. It is spread across several halls, each using digital screens and audio-visual installations to show the mountain environment across different periods.
The museum traces the history of the Karkonosze Mountains from the formation of the first rock layers around 450 million years ago to the present landscape. It covers major shifts such as ice ages and continental movements that gave the range its current shape.
The museum contains a reconstructed mountain herbalist cottage where traditional healing plants and everyday objects from the Karkonosze mountain community are on display. Walking through it gives a concrete sense of how local people once organised their daily lives.
The museum is open daily, and visitors can move through the halls at their own pace, though setting aside a good chunk of time helps to get the most from the interactive stations. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since there is a fair amount of walking between sections.
One of the museum's stations simulates the climate of past geological periods using real wind and temperature effects inside the room itself. This means visitors physically feel the shift between eras rather than just reading about them.
