Saint Anne church in Czarnowąsy

Saint Anne church is a wooden house of worship in Czarnowąsy with distinctive features of late 17th-century Baroque architecture. The building displays the regional construction style with timber walls, a steeply pitched roof, and simply proportioned rooms inside.

The church was built between 1684 and 1688 following Baroque plans and stood on the site of an older medieval chapel dedicated to the same saint. A fire destroyed the building in August 2005, but it was later fully restored.

The church embodies local building traditions visible in its wooden structure and interior layout, typical of Upper Silesian craftsmanship. Visitors can see these traditional construction techniques reflected in every detail of the walls and roof frame.

The building is located about 7 kilometers northwest of Opole and is accessible by car or bus. Visitors should note that it attracts people interested in traditional wooden churches, so early morning hours tend to be less crowded.

The church roof has an unusually steep pitch, an adaptation to the region's snowy winters that allowed snow to slide off more quickly. This functional detail becomes one of the most striking features when examined closely.
