Krykulec, Forest settlement in Mały Kack district, Gdynia, Poland
Krykulec is a forest settlement in Gdynia that centers on a clearing that serves as a retention basin for the Maria Spring stream. The area lies within the Tricity Landscape Park, which protects the surrounding woodland.
The place began as a forester's lodge and once covered a larger area of what is now Gdynia. A neighboring forestry building was destroyed in the mid-20th century.
The name Krykulec comes from the Kashubian language, where Krëkólc may refer to a joker or playfully suggest an echo in the forest. This linguistic connection reflects the area's roots in local Kashubian traditions.
A coal transport railway runs through the area and connects Gdynia with Kościerzyna. Visitors and residents can use this rail connection for travel options.
The place preserves traces of earlier structures including a meadow, an orchard, a pond, and the foundations of vanished buildings. These remnants tell the story of how the settlement evolved and shrank over time.
