Krzemieniucha

Krzemieniucha is a 288-meter hill in the Eastern Suwałki Lake District featuring a small chapel and stone grotto at its summit. The grotto houses a statue of the Virgin Mary, and a large boulder crowned with a steel cross dominates the hilltop.

The hill served as a military observation post during World War I, with remnants of trenches still visible along its slopes. This military past left clear marks on the landscape that remain visible today.

The chapel at the summit is a place where visitors pause and take in the surroundings, while the statue of the Virgin Mary in the grotto draws many seeking a quiet spot for reflection. The large boulder with the steel cross marks the hilltop and brings visitors from across the region.

The hill is accessible via several hiking trails that wind through the natural landscape of the northeastern lake district, offering different levels of difficulty. The best access routes start from parking areas in nearby villages, which are roughly an hour's walk away.

The name is often confused with the nearby Krzemianucha, which houses a radio and television broadcasting center and is entirely different. Despite the similar names, the two locations are about 10 kilometers apart and have completely different characters.
